The Interparish Fest 2017 which had the maxim “All Good Things are Gifts from God” (1 Timothy 6:17), came to a close with the spectacular finale’ in Pearland, Texas on Aug 6, 2017. The IPTF, a wonderful celebration of different churches in the form of colorful dances, soulful music and breathtaking performances, has been celebrated ever since 2010, providing kids and adults of all ages a platform to come together in solidarity, showing their skills and talents with a purpose – to carry on the cultural and traditional riches that we have inherited from generation to generation. Inter Parish Talent Fest is being organized for the Christian children of Churches under the Texas/Oklahoma region of Syro Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. The excitement has grown manifold over the years ever since it started in 2010 and the program itself has witnessed wider and larger participation from year to year, latest development being that more items are added to ensure the participation of adults in the talent fest.
This year’s talent fest was announced at the end of 2016 and preparations in the form of talent scans and practices have been underway ever since for the big event which was held at St. Joseph’s Hall, Houston. Programs were well organized and events were held in two separate stages to maximize the utilization of time. The programs began beautifully yet gracefully with a prayer followed by various cultural competitions. Mono Act, Group Song and Speeches were completed on Day 1.
The final day saw some serious spirit of excitement in the early morning hours during the Bible Quiz, with St. Thomas Church, Garland winning the much desired and coveted First Prize. The outstanding performance of the team was well appreciated by the entire audience. Group dance, Margam Kali, Instrumental Music were the main events of the final day followed by the closing ceremony. When all event results were announced, St. Alphonsa Chuch, Coppell was crowned as the overall champion, followed by St. Joseph’s Church Houston and St. Thomas Church Garland.
The events were organized by the Pearland Team lead by Fr. Ruben J Thannickal, Event Director and Vicar of St. Mary’s church, Pearland assisted by the Team Leader, Joshy Varghese and trustees. All events at the parish level were organized under the leadership of Vicar Rev. Fr. Joshy Elambasseril and CCD Director Silvy Cham assisted by Talent Scan coordinators Subi Alex and Juliet Paul Mulangan.
It was an immensely, one of a kind experience for all the participants and spectators alike. When the curtains came down for the IPTF 2017, we knew it was not about the competitions or the winnings or even the prizes, but it was about our love for one another and unity as true Christians that was fostered during the entire event. We said ‘adieus’ with a promise to keep up the spirit and commitment for continuous betterment.
